Jianfei Cai received his PhD degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is currently an Associate Professor and has served as the Head of Visual & Interactive Computing Division and the Head of Computer Communication Division at the School of Computer Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His major research interests include visual computing and multimedia networking. He has published more than 100 technical papers in international conferences and journals. He has been actively participating in program committees of various conferences. He has served as the leading Technical Program Chair for IEEE International Conference on Multimedia & Expo (ICME) 2012 and the leading General Chair for Pacific-rim Conference on Multimedia (PCM) 2012. He was an invited speaker for the first IEEE Signal Processing Society Summer School on 3D and high definition / high contrast video process systems in 2011. He is currently an Associate Editorfor IEEE Trans on Image Processing (T-IP) and has served as an Associate Editor for IEEE Trans on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (T-CSVT), and Guest Editor for IEEE Trans on Multimedia (TMM), ELSEVIER Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation (JVCI), etc. He is also a senior member of IEEE.

The research topics of our Lab include:
Semantic visual media segmentation & recognition: We focus on interactively or automatically segmenting images, videos or graphics models into semantic parts, each of which corresponds an object or a meaningful part of an object.
3D reconstruction: We are interested in efficiently and effectively reconstruct 3D object models using single or multiple commodity depth cameras.
Cloud-assisted media computing: We are interested in leveraging cloud computing infrastructure to handle large-scale media computing tasks.
