Department of Computer Science, National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan

Lab Director (or Principal Investigator)

Dr. Jen-Hui Chuang received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1991. Since then he has been on the faculty of the Department of Computer Science of National Chiao Tung University (NCTU). From 2004 to 2005, he was the chairman of the Department of Computer and Information Science. From 2006 to 2007 he was the Associate Dean of College of Computer Science. He serves as the director of Computer Vision Research Center (CVRC) of NCTU since 2004.

(CVRC has recently completed an 8-year project (2004-2012) entitled "Construction of Vision-based Intelligent Environment" sponsored by the Academic Technology Development Program, Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), and achieved some major accomplishments, which include 156 developed core technologies, 31 domestic and international patents, NT$38 millions of the license fees and royalties for 73 technologies and 10 patents, and NT$340 millions of related industrial investments. In October 2013, CVRC received the Award for National Industrial Innovation from MOEA -- Technology Development Program of the Year.)

Dr. Chuang's research interests include robotics, signal and image processing, computer vision and pattern recognition, and potential-based 3-D modeling. He served as an associate editor of Signal Processing from 2005 to 2010 and has been an associate editor of Journal of Information Science and Engineering since 2009. Dr. Chuang is a senior member of IEEE and has been a member of the governing board of IAPR since 2013.
