Professor Chung Nan Lee received his Ph.D. degrees from Washington University. He is currently Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at the National Sun Yat-sen University. His research interests are in the areas of Wireless Multimedia System, Medical and Biological Information, Theory and Practice of Genetic Algorithm.

Professor Lee received the best paper awards from IPPR Association(2009&1999), outstanding performance in the competition of multimedia application in College embedded software design(2006&2009), Best doctoral paper award with Zheng-Zhong Hsu -“Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and Recurrent Nasal Papilloma Detection with Pharmacokinetic Dynamic Gadolinium-Enhanced MR Imaging and Functional MR Imaging of the Brain Using Robust Motion Correction“, and Best paper award in Computer Society of Republic of China(1993).

Last year(2013), Professor Lee organized APSIPA ASC 2013 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and got a lot of excellent and dedicated scholars. The conference had a high attendance number, which was slightly over 410.

Currently, Professor Lee is leading two researching labs and they are CIIS Lab and Wireless Broadband Communication Protocol Cross-Campus Research Center.

Many of Professor Lee’s Ph.D. students have gone into service in different academic institute.

CIIS Lab had been established from February in 2002, and we focus on using and innovating new technology on a variety of information systems and application research. The fields we are currently working on including but is not limited to the following topics: (1) Wireless communication protocols, (2) Multimedia systems, (3) Cloud computing

The details of the above topics includes:

1. Wireless communication protocols: including WiMAX/LTE protocol peformance enhancement, field trials, IOT, resource allocation in hetrogeneous networks, applications.

2. Multimedia system: including 3D computer graphics, video surveillence.

3. Cloud computing: Big data analysis, Cloud computing platform, Visualization.


CIIS lab not only has some high-speed equipment working for researches and simulations, but also high efficiency computing servers to implement new technology and new algorithms. All the members in CIIS Lab are expected to put theory into practice and make innovation.

Recently, CIIS lab is developing new algorithms in 4G communication with Wireless Broadband Communication Protocol Cross-Campus Research Center, that is also supervised by Prof. Chung-Nan Lee.

In addition to the academic research, our lab also has the cooperation with some famous companies in the industry. We hope that we could make the research? results to be applied in the daily life.

Members of our lab currently include Professor Chung Nan Lee, 1 post-doc, 24 graduated students, and 3 lab assistants.
