Lab Director (or Principal Investigator)

Jitae Shin

He received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from University of Southern California (USC), U.S.A. in 2001. From 2002 to present, he was an Assistant/Associate Professor and is now Full Professor in the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in SKKU, Korea. His research topics include image/video processing and multimedia communications.

Lab Introduction

Media System Laboratory (MSL) has started from 2002, and it has alumni of 3 Ph.D. students and 23 master students during last ten years. Our research interests include image/video signal processing and transmission issues over Future Internet and wireless/mobile communication systems. Recently, we extend the image signal processing into medical image such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and other medical imaging types. Current active projects are as follows: multi-dimensional video transmission in content-centric networks over 5G communication systems; scalable depth map video based on compressive sensing and perceptual video-quality; and medical image segmentation for diagnosis.

We collaborate closely with leading electronics companies and research institutes, such as Samsung, Korea Telecom (KT), and Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institutes (ETRI). The alumni are actively working in various companies, including Samsung, LG, SK Telecom, and etc.
